Ordering
Ordering your custom guitar
Ordering a guitar from Gray Acoustics is a fun process. Email, call or text, so I can talk to you about all the details needed to create your dream guitar. Firstly I'll need to know what you are looking for, what characteristics you absolutely need to have present. The style and size of the guitar, your preferred playing style, visual and tonal qualities of wood choices, rosettes, binding, purflings and so much more. I want to keep the process as easy as possible, the standard price will cover many options, with only increased charges for some of the more rare exotic woods, pickups and case choices.
No deposit is required to be placed on the waiting list. Once I am ready to start the design / drawing process a £500 non-refundable deposit is required. When we are happy and I am ready to start building your guitar, a 50% payment of the remaining balance will be payable. The final payment will be due upon completion (prior to shipping). It usually takes around three months from the start of the building process to receive your guitar. I can send photo updates of the build process along the way.
A personalised photobook will also be made available to document the build process of your guitar.

Finishing process
I use a French polished shellac finish on all of my guitars. This is a non toxic material which has many benefits to the finished instrument. The guitar remains supple, unlike many plasticising hard finishes, a shellac finish allows the wood to breathe. Helping keep a perfect finish in varying humidities, whilst allowing the guitar to resonate to its true potential. The end result is a little softer than a nitro or polyurethane finish, however, added with the natural beauty of the glass like finish achieved, this is my finish of choice.
Because shellac is applied by hand, the whole finish process is lengthy. Usually taking 4 weeks to complete. The results are well worth the wait.

Please specify if a different finish is desired prior to the build process commencing
